We spoke with students about the challenge of food waste and how Joy Market redirects surplus groceries to families in need. The response was incredible—dozens of classmates signed up to help with logistics, outreach, and events.

This event helped students understand the scope of food waste in America while building community. We discussed how grocers face inventory pressure and how Joy Market creates a win-win: reducing waste and lowering barriers to food access.

Volunteers wrote thoughtful notes in English and Korean, assembling Halloween treat bags for families served by KFAM. It was a meaningful way to connect with the community and show that Joy Market is about more than transactions—it's about care and dignity.

Drop-off points across campus collected nonperishable staples: canned vegetables, beans, pasta, rice, and shelf-stable proteins. Every item goes directly to partner organizations serving low-income families in Los Angeles.
