Save Good Food. Feed the Community. Cut Waste.

Joy Market partners with local grocers to rescue slow-moving nonperishables and offer them at steep discounts to low-income families—reducing waste while feeding our Los Angeles community.

What is Joy Market?

Joy Market is a student-led initiative that addresses food waste and food insecurity simultaneously. We partner with local grocers to identify slow-moving nonperishables that would otherwise be discarded, then redirect those items to families who need them most—at prices that make sense for tight budgets.

Why Food Waste Matters

Every year, grocers discard enormous volumes of perfectly good food due to inventory pressure, approaching expiration dates, or slow sales. Meanwhile, food prices rise and families struggle to afford essentials. This isn't just waste—it's a solvable systems problem. Joy Market closes that gap by creating a sustainable model that benefits grocers, families, and our planet.

How It Works

We identify slow-moving inventory at partner grocers, coordinate logistics to transport goods to our distribution points, and work with trusted community organizations like KFAM to ensure food reaches families with dignity and care. It's a simple three-step process: Identify, Partner, Distribute—turning waste into relief.
